At Cushman & Wakefield | Stevenson, we believe in making our community a better place to live, work, and play through community-centric, purposeful growth. We exemplify this commitment through volunteer opportunities, donation drives, and other initiatives during the year that align with our values.
Within our company, diversity and inclusion play a core role in our culture. We strive to promote a culture where every voice is heard and individuality is celebrated, and extend these values beyond our office to make a difference in our community.
As 2024 comes to an end, we want to take this opportunity to reflect on the initiatives Cushman & Wakefield | Stevenson carried out and the incredible organizations we have supported throughout the year.
Spread the Love in Support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
To celebrate Valentine’s Day we organized an initiative where team members purchased candy grams for their coworkers and loved ones in exchange for a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. It was a “sweet” way to support a great cause.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada drives life-saving medical breakthroughs, advocates for better health, and brings together the brightest minds to improve diagnosis, care, and support. Their initiatives prevent the surge of heart failure, transform the stroke system and care, improve cardiac arrest survival rates, and more.
Special Olympics Manitoba Ultimate Unified Games
Our team was honoured to be a part of Special Olympics Manitoba‘s first Ultimate Unified Games in May! It was a day full of friendly competition and unified sport where participants from companies across Winnipeg competed in a variety of games alongside Special Olympics Manitoba Athletes to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics movement. Our volunteers wore many different hats throughout the day, including refereeing bocce ball, directing relay races, and cheering the participants on.
Special Olympics Manitoba enriches the lives of Manitobans with an intellectual disability through sport, and provides 18 sports to over 1800 athletes across Manitoba.
Downtown Spring CleanUp
CWS employees joined over 700 participants for Downtown Winnipeg BIZ‘s annual spring cleanup. It was an inspiring morning seeing so many community members come together to clean up the community we work and live in.
Harvest Manitoba
Some of our team spent an afternoon volunteering at Harvest Manitoba, where they learned more about the incredible work Harvest Manitoba does to support the community, sorted food donations, and packed food hampers.
Harvest Manitoba collects and shares 12 million pounds of food each year, which is used to prepare Harvest Hampers that are distributed across the province to feed more than 90,000 Manitobans every month.
Sunshine House Donation Drive
In recognition of Pride and National Indigenous History Month, our team collected personal care products, gently used clothing, and non-perishable food for a donation to Sunshine House.
Sunshine House is a community drop-in and resource centre that focuses on harm reduction and social inclusion. Their programs provide a welcoming space for individuals exploring gender and/or sexual identity to gather for fun and skill-building activities. They also offer support and advocacy for 2SLGBTQI+ individuals at various stages of refugee clamancy, immigration, and resettlement in Winnipeg.
Orange Shirts from Dreamcatcher Promotions
For National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we purchased orange t-shirts for our entire team from Dreamcatcher Promotions, a local Indigenous-owned company.
Dreamcatcher Promotions is Canada’s largest Indigenous-owned promotional company, founded in 2011. They are CAMSC (Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council)-certified and are registered with the Indigenous Business Directory with the Government of Canada, reflecting their commitment to transparency and accountability.
Backpacks from Heaven Donation Drive
We organized a donation drive of coats and blankets in support of Backpacks from Heaven, an initiative that assembles and distributes backpacks filled with essential supplies like non-perishable food and toiletries to people experiencing homelessness in Winnipeg.
Koats for Kids through United Way Winnipeg
With winter around the corner, some members of our team spent the afternoon volunteering with Koats for Kids through United Way Winnipeg. Not only did our team members learn about the incredible work Koats for Kids does for children in Winnipeg, but they also supported with sorting, organizing, and packing orders.
Each year, Koats for Kids collects, sorts, packages, and distributes over 7,000 kg of winter coats, ski pants, boots, hats, mitts, and scarves for children in need in Winnipeg.
Home Sweet Home Baking Program at Ronald McDonald House of Manitoba
We were thrilled to participate in the Ronald McDonald House of Manitoba‘s Home Sweet Home Baking Program! Baking sweet treats for the families staying there is a great way to help them feel at home and ensures there are comforting treats on hand for them to enjoy together.
Ronald McDonald House Manitoba is a home away from home for rural Manitoban and out-of-province families with a child requiring treatment at a nearby hospital. The 60,000 sf house is located near HSC Children’s Hospital and can support up to 40 families at a time.
United Way Workplace Campaign
We were excited to once again participate in the United Way Workplace Campaign!
The Workplace Campaign is an annual fundraising initiative that aims to raise funds in support of United Way Winnipeg, an organization dedicated to tackling the social, economic, and cultural issues in our community. The organization’s mission is simple: To improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action.
For this year’s initiatives, our Workplace Campaign committee planned a variety of fundraising initiatives including an Ugly Sweater Party and a variety of contests team members could buy tickets for. It was a fun opportunity to pull out our ugly sweaters for a great cause!
Holiday Donation
In lieu of sending client gifts this year, we decided to make a donation to 1JustCity, an organization making a tremendous impact in and around downtown Winnipeg.
1JustCity is an organization founded to strengthen and sustain social justice work in Winnipeg. They support three drop-in community centres in core neighbourhoods near downtown Winnipeg, and provide services including daily meals, senior’s programs, laundry, showers, art, Indigenous programming, health-care support, seasonal clothing, and more. During the winter months, they operate an overnight warming shelter in Osborne Village called “Just a Warm Sleep”.
We’re very proud to contribute to an organization making such a positive impact in our local community.
